NEXT MEETING

 

The July 1st, 2009, 719th SNCA meeting at 10:00 a.m. will be hosted by SNCA: Strategic Planning and held at The Pampano Club” on Twin City Highway.

 

 

The 718th Sabine Neches Chiefs Association meeting was hereby called to order at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 3rd, 2009 at Big Rich’s on Highway 90 in Beaumont and was hosted by Exxon-Mobil.

 

Jeff Bolton gave the invocation.

 

John Owens led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Self-introductions were made and Ricky Wood, Emergency Response and Safety Coordinator from Exxon Mobile welcomed the membership. 

 

The following SNCA Officers were excused: Cindy Powers, Jeff Kelly, Doug Jones, Tod McDowell, Larry McBride and Jeff Kelley.

 

PROGRAM

 

Mr. Roger Erickson with the National Weather Service gave a presentation on hurricanes, including predictions for the upcoming year.  The discussion covered the past and possible damage caused by different storm categories and the new system for predicting storm surge.

READING OF THE MINUTES

 

President Stephen Curran asked for “Approval” of the 717th meeting’s previous month’s minutes as e-mailed for the May 6th, 2009 meeting.  A motion was made by Dale Jackson and seconded by Elgin Browning to approve the minutes.  Motion passed.

 

CORRESPONDANCE:

 

President Curran read a Membership Application Letter from Simplex Grinnel and Sponsorship Letter from Lumberton Fire/EMS. As per protocol, The Application Letter and Sponsorship Letter will be read at the next scheduled Board of Directors Meeting for membership approval.  * The required Inventory information has been forwarded to Vernon Pierce.

The President called for a motion to approve the minutes.  Jeff Bolton made the motion to approve the Financials. Larry Richard seconded the motion. The motion carried.

July 13-17 A&M will host an Industrial School

August 27-28: Fire Show at the Dallas Convention Center.

Any IFC member gets a free pass to attend the show and booths with out attending classes.

The Police Academy has mandatory classes at LIT.

He did want us to know that Port Arthur’s Mobile Command Center is installed and will be functional in the next few days.

 

 

 

Inventory: Vernon Pierce - No report

 

Bosses Night:  David Frenzel

 

Bosses Night will be held at the Groves Community and Activity Center. Two nights were booked to ensure there would be no conflict with the Homeland Security Conference. The conference will not interfere, so a motion was made by Bryant Champagne to have Bosses night on Monday, December 7th, 2009. Aleta Cappen seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The program will be good through 2009. The 2010 program is the new focus. The goal is to get a wider variety of programs that not only include Fire and Emergency Response but and will expand to Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical, Health and other topics.

 

Drill and Exercise Committee: Bob Stegall

 

Secretary of Homeland security announced new grant money. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act from DHS has $150 million available in additional grant funding for Police Departments, Fire Departments and Private Industry. The application deadline is June 29th.

 

Homeland Security Committee:  Steve Curran – No report

 

Overhead Team Committee: Jeff Kelley

 

All Hazards IM Team Class will have a six-day course in San Antonio

 

Reminder: MOV’s that have not been signed must be signed and submitted.

 

Strategic Planning Committee: Cindy Powers – No Report- Absent

 

The membership was emailed and given hard copies of the Strategic Plan.

 

SNCA Golf Tournament Committee: Bryant Champagne/Stephanie Garsea

 

Stephanie reported that $5,200 profit was made at the Golf Tournament. The money will be donated to LIT for scholarships.

RECENT EMERGENCIES/ ISSUES

 

Recent emergencies were discussed in the following categories:  Industry, Municipal Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, Homeland Security and Health.

In Port Arthur four cases of H1N1 have been confirmed. There have been no deaths. Investigations and treatments are in progress. A vaccine is predicted to be ready in the fall. Everyone is encouraged to get a flu shot and a H1N1 shot when it is available.

 

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
 

February 23rd – 25th, 2010, is the Industrial Fire world Expo in Baton Rouge, LA.
