NEXT MEETING
The November 4th, 2009, 723th SNCA meeting at 10:00 a.m. will be hosted by The Port Arthur Police and Fire Departments and held at the Port Arthur Civic Center.
The 722th Sabine Neches Chiefs Association meeting was hereby called to order at 10:05 a.m. on Wednesday October 7th, 2009 at The Pompano Club in Port Neches and hosted by The Port Neches Fire Department.
Matt Dulaney gave the invocation.
John Owens led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Self-introductions were made and Glenn Johnson, Mayor of Port Neches, welcomed the membership.
The following SNCA Officers were excused; Vernon Pierce, Doug Jones, Aleta Cappen, Tod McDowell and Cindy Powers.
READING OF THE MINUTES
President Stephen Curran, asked for “Approval” of the previous month’s minutes as e-mailed for the September 2nd, 2009 meeting. A motion was made by Gary Collins and seconded by Dale Jackson to approve the minutes. Motion passed. CORRESPONDANCE: Chief Curran read a letter from the State University System for the SNCA donation to the Salute Endowment Account for scholarship for distribution to those students who pursue a career in Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, EMS or Homeland Security at the Lamar Institute of Technology. TREASURERS REPORT: It was noted that invoices for dues went out in September and all members are encouraged to get the payments in as soon as possible. The Treasurer’s information is compiled by Terry Basham, Sec. /Treasurer with the assistance of John Avery, PAFD The balances as of October 5th, 2009 are: As of 10/5/09: Checking: 25,981.62 CD: 4,967.86 --------------- Total $30,949.48 The President called for a motion to approve the Treasurers Report; Greg Fountain made the motion to approve the Financials and Larry Richard seconded the motion. The motion carried. None NEW BUSINESS: None Nominations for Officers have been taken for the open board positions of Police Director, Fire Director and Industry Director. A list of prospective candidates shall be submitted to the Board of Directors to be reviewed at the fourth quarter board meeting and a slate of prospective candidates will be approved for submission to the membership for General Election. The Chair of the Nominations Committee based on the approved slate shall prepare a written ballot. Spaces for write-in candidates shall be provided on the election ballot. Below are some of the upcoming training opportunities. NOTE: All programs are subject to change at a moment's notice due to changes of emergencies, conflicts in scheduling, etc. For the most current training dates, check the calendar website. Lumberton Fire & EMS will be hosting some training classes in the very near future. All of these will be conducted at the Lumberton Central Fire Station, located between US Hwy 69 & 96, at 228 Country Lane Drive, also known as FM 421. There should be limited room available for additional attendees but ONLY those who make advanced arrangements by contacting The Lumberton Training Lieutenant - Israel Chapa at iachapa@hotmail.com · On Oct. 16, 6-9 PM on Friday evening they will be conducting the "Art of Reading Smoke". · On Oct. 17 & 18, 8 AM - 5 PM Saturday & 8 AM till Noon Sunday the Emergency Vehicle Driving Course will commence. This will involve both class room and apparatus driving time. · On October 24 & 25 they will host the NFA: Incident Safety Officer course. The 2009 AHIMT (All Hazards Incident Management Team) Training and Education Conference is coming up November 4-6 in Houston at the Hobby Hilton. This is a national conference and will be rotating to other locations out of state in future years. Therefore this may be the only opportunity some of us have to attend this conference close to home and in our home state for some time. If you have someone you’d like to nominate for an award, please complete the nomination form and return to Stephanie Garsea ASAP. “ Awards will be given @ Boss’ night event in December.” Mid and South County is rebanding. Inventory: Vernon Pierce – No report David reported that plans are going well with the annual Bosses Night Program! The event will be held the first Monday in December (December 7th) at the Groves Activity Center. The event will start at 6:00 PM, with a social hour and the meal will be served at 7:00 PM. The Beaumont Fire Department Band will perform and the program will be handled by the SNCA 60th Anniversary Committee. At the November meeting, you will be asked to fill out a form showing how many guests will be expected from your department or facility. Please come to the November meeting with that information! Good food and fellowship and great door prizes will abound, so please plan to be there and BRING YOUR BOSS! Programs are scheduled thru January 2010. If you have ANY suggestions please contact Roger @ roger.erickson@noaa.gov. Law Enforcement remains ever vigilant to possible terrorist activities throughout the United States. Continue working on inventory list for oil spill response and hope to have that available to SNCA membership soon. New 60th year patch insignia and a PowerPoint Presentation will be presented at Bosses Night. Recent emergencies were discussed in the following categories: Industry, Municipal Fire, Law Enforcement, Barbara Phillips, Public Affairs Officer with Valero, presented the membership with information about the STAN System. The International Association of Fire Educators gave a presentation on the Association and training provided. Tom Burger with Golden Pass and Jim Kaucher with Cheniere LNG gave the organization an overview of the LNG projects. PLEASE NOTE THE UP-COMING HOSTS: President Steve Curran asks the membership to please review the upcoming hosts now located at the end of minutes each month.
